Election Speculation

Uttlesford seems to be full of speculation about the chances of Kemi Badenoch losing her seat following the Tories’ disastrous results in Tamworth and Mid Bedfordshire. However most Tories stayed at home rather than vote Labour, so I’m not sure that Labour is the most likely beneficiary.

The 39,000 people who voted Conservative at the last election but are now disillusioned with the present government and our MP’s woeful lack of engagement with the constituency face a stark choice: they can stay at home, or send a very clear message to the government about their concern for their children and grandchildren.

The Green Party in Uttlesford are passionate about taking action on inflation, housing, fuel poverty and tackling the growing chasm between the richest and the poorest in our society. We are also horrified by the failure of successive governments to deal adequately with the climate emergency and environmental crises.

Richie Sunak has misjudged the mood of the nation in rowing back from existing strategies on climate change. The people know full well how serious the situation is, with storm Babet being the most recent reminder of the damage and extreme human and financial costs of our failure to take adequate action.

The prospects for our children on our current trajectory, while the main parties score short term political points, simply doesn’t bear thinking about. I will be standing in the election both for my grandchildren and yours.
