Concern for the Integrity of our Politicians

The Green Party stall on Saffron Walden market last week threw up some interesting results.

Passers-by were invited to put sticky dots against their priorities for the next election. There were 13 options but only 4 dots were allowed, so a great deal of thinking was involved!

Top of the table came the Climate Crisis with 77 votes followed by the NHS with

71. The big surprise of the day was concern for the Integrity of our Politicians came a very close 4th behind Education with 50 votes.

Whether that is because of the never-ending stories of sexual scandal and financial irregularities attaching to our politicians, Partygate, the revelations at the Covid enquiry, or the perceived self-interest of our own MP, who knows?

Just as intriguing was that the government priorities of Immigration (3 votes) and Inflation (9 votes) brought up the rear. Of course, it wasn’t a scientifically selected sample: not everyone is inclined to stop at a Green Party stall, but it may be an early indication of the way people of Uttlesford are thinking.
